Pair your drives

A pair is the relationship between a folder on your internal SSD and the matching folder on your external NVMe. Storage Studio enforces the pair boundary on every move, merge, and recovery operation.

What pairing does for you

  • Moves preserve hierarchy from the pair root down.
  • The Tier window's two panes mirror each other when paired — clicking

a folder in the left pane auto-scrolls the right pane to the same relative path.

  • Free Up Space only considers files inside a pair, never your whole

disk.

  • App relocator targets the paired NVMe automatically.

How to pair

Open Tier → Pair menu (gear icon in the toolbar). Choose the two roots. Pairs are stored at ~/.storagestudio/state/pairs.json and survive reboots and drive unmounts.

You can have multiple pairs. Each can be enabled, disabled, or pinned to the Recents list independently.

How to un-pair

Right-click any pair in the Pairs menu and choose Forget. Un-pairing does not move any files; it only removes the relationship.
