Restore Points
A restore point safeguards Storage Studio's own records and settings — the registry of everything it has moved (so it never forgets where your files came from and can always put them back) plus its configuration and rules. Your files are never copied into a restore point.
Storage Studio takes one automatically before each batch of moves, and you can also make one yourself any time with Create Restore Point. You'll find it all in the menu under More → Restore Points.
Roll back in one click
The headline button is Roll Back Last Batch. One click returns the most recent batch of moved files to where they came from, using the same safe move-back Storage Studio uses everywhere. It never overwrites your data — if it can't return something without writing over whatever is now at the original spot, it skips that item and tells you, and leaves everything else exactly as it was.
A clear, readable list
Relocated folders show up as meaningful, top-level items. The thousands of small per-file cache moves that happen automatically in the background are kept out of the way, so the list stays easy to read.
Almost no space
A restore point stores records, not copies, so it takes up next to nothing — even when there are lots of them. The "Space used" figure you see reflects the small footprint of those records, never the size of your data.
Looks after itself
Restore points are fully managed for you:
- Storage Studio keeps a sensible recent history and **automatically
prunes the oldest** entries so the list never grows out of hand.
- If an entry is ever left incomplete — say your Mac shut down mid-move
— it repairs itself the next time around.
- Saving a restore point never slows down or blocks a move; it happens
in the background.
Where they live
Restore points are kept on your external drive, so they're available whenever it's connected. Plug the drive in and your full history is right there.
Restoring your settings
Restoring puts Storage Studio's records and configuration back safely: it's done in one atomic step, confined to Storage Studio's own area, and your current state is backed up first. It never touches your files, your apps, or their settings — only Storage Studio's own memory.
